Apple and Google welcome the Biden administration’s immigration reform

Apple and Google CEOs in statements on Wednesday supported President Joe Biden’s plans to reform US immigration policy, a major component of which includes the extension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Shortly after he was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, Biden signed a couple of executive orders extending the Obama-era DACA program and lifting President Donald Trump’s travel and immigration bans in predominantly Muslim countries.

Trump attempted to dismantle DACA protections during his tenure, but the attempts were largely foiled in federal court.

Apple and other tech companies are proponents of the program and have expressed public support for immigration reform in the past. In 2019, for example, the iPhone maker said it had 443 so-called Dreamers in its ranks.

Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement today supported Biden’s immigration efforts, The Verge reports.
