Apple’s 5G modem has come out as the latest local information after a previous report talked about the 2023 iPhones featuring only 20 percent of Qualcomm 5G modems. From now on, all iPhone models expect to receive the company’s baseband chip and will not be sourced from a third-party manufacturer, and will launch two years from now.
TSMC is likely to help Apple launch its first 5G Modem Model
According to an earlier report, DigiTimes agreed that the iPhones 2023 will feature 5G modems developed by Apple, with the company being able to get help from other than TSMC. However, contrary to Qualcomm’s executive beliefs, a new report states that Apple will move away from Chipmaker San Diego and move to using its 5G modems in 2023. We do not believe that will not be the case, because according to the six-year partnership, Apple will continue to use Qualcomm chips, with indications that it will continue to offer these features during 2024.
It is possible that Qualcomm will continue to offer more transfers to Apple because it does not seem that the technology giant will just cut suppliers out of this category. In fact, whatever name Apple decides to give its 5G modem, it will be exclusive to die-series A, meaning it will not integrate. The report does not explain why Apple is adopting this approach as integrated 5G modems not only save valuable space inside the smartphone but also charge more efficiently.
Back in 2020, Apple’s Johny Srouji said the technology giant would begin development work on its custom modem, so it would slowly start to depend on declining and declining on Qualcomm’s decisions in the near future. Ming-Chi Kuo, a leading analyst, predicts that Apple’s first 5G baseband chip will arrive in 2023, although some experts say this approach for the company will be more complicated than just developing regular chips for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Those experts say that the completion of those custom 5G modems is not expected until 2025 but it appears that Apple is already moving beyond their estimates and will be able to prepare a solution in the next two years.
