According to reports, some new BMWs will be sold without Android Auto or Apple CarPlay

According to Automotive News Europe, BMW is temporarily shipping some new vehicles without compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay after switching chip manufacturers (via 9to5Google). According to reports, the new manufacturer chips are not yet compatible with Android Auto and CarPlay and will require an upgrade for the software to work.

“The chips built into these cars in the first four months of this year need updated software to be fully operational and enable Apple CarPlay / Android Auto and Wi-Fi capability,” BMW said in an email to Automotive News Europe. BMW did not immediately respond to Verge’s request for comment. Drivers may not have to wait too long to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, though. The car manufacturer told Automotive Europe News that it plans to roll out an air-to-air (OTA) update to enable our service “by the end of May.”

BMW did not specify what specific car models it was or how much, but said that cars with “6P1” in their production code would not come with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. It is not clear whether only certain regions are involved in the case – Automotive Europe reports that drivers from the US, UK, Italy, Spain, and France have reported receiving their new cars without either working. This is not the first sacrifice BMW has made due to the lack of fat. Last November, BMW confirmed that it had stopped moving some of its new cars without touch screens and a back-up feature and gave drivers just a $ 500 credit in return.

Other car companies, such as General Motors, are also affected by the shortage. GM dropped wireless charging from most cars, removed the fuel control module from some of its trucks, and disconnected the unmanned Super Cruise at the Cadillac Escalade 2022. Soon, Ford began shipping for a while and sold SUV Explorer without rear heating and air controls. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger predicts a severe shortage, which affects many companies in different ways, could run in 2024.
