Linksys says HomeKit support comes from Development of routers ” in the next few days

Linksys today announced that it will soon begin to add HomeKit support for its expanded line of routers. While the information is not clear, the company says that the software updates will start rolling out “in the next few days.”

As for the first time by HomeKit Newsonce your Development system updates, the Linksys app on iOS will prompt you to add your router to the Home of the app. Linksys explains that the whole of your Development nodes must be in a trio-band in order to use HomeKit:

This means that if you have the WHW0301, WHW0302, and WHW0303 routers from Linksys and the Development of the system sold in Apple Stores, you’ll be able to take advantage of HomeKit support. The tri-band 3-pack WHW0303 goes for a little less than $400 at Amazon.

At WWDC last year, Apple announced that HomeKit will soon be supported by routers, Eero, Linksys, and of the Charter of the Spectrum. While the support of Eero seems imminent, it now appears that the Linksys may be the first manufacturer to meet their commitment.

The many benefits of HomeKit-enabled routers will be related to security, such as the ability of a firewall to disable the accessory, preventing access to your network as a whole. Apple describes it as the ability to “strengthen the security by monitoring the network activity of your accessories for the Home and the prevention of dangerous connections.”

We are deploying an update to the firmware for your Development system in the next few days. Once your system is updated, the next time you open the Linksys application, it will prompt you to link with Apple in the House. All of your Development nodes must be tri-band for this integration to work.
