Apple introduced HomePod OS 12 on Monday for the HomePod smart speaker. The OS upgrade includes support for iPhone speaker phones, support for Siri Shortcuts and more.

HomePod OS 12 adds features that bring the device more in line with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. HomePod can now switch on multiple timers, search for songs based on song lyrics and call Find My iPhone.

Support for speakerphone is a welcome improvement. Now you can call and receive your HomePod and ask Siri who has called if you did not answer.
HomePod OS 12 also supports Siri Shortcuts, which should help make the smart speaker much more useful than has been the case so far. Shortcuts can be simple or complex actions that you set on your iPhone or iPad. Because they can be called with Siri voice commands, you can access them via your HomePod.
Updating HomePod OS
HomePod OS updates are automatically installed, but it can take a few days before that happens. To install HomePod OS 12 immediately, start the House app on your iPhone or iPad and then tap Place and choose Home settings. You should see an a Software update option after selecting your HomeKit network.
