The Wall Street Journal has an excellent play exploring the criminal side of cryptocurrency. Lgtime readers know that I am a fan of cryptocurrency, but this piece offers an excellent insight into the dark side of this technology. Here is an excerpt:
For many criminals, cryptocurrency is less cumbersome than mey. Hackers hold computer systems hostage and require anymous and instant payment in bitcoin. Drug traffickers sell in the darkest corners of the Internet, obscuring their names and locatis. Narcotics traffickers move and whiten their profits with mouse clicks. "The cases have exploded," says Gabriel Bewley, a special agent in the virtual currency initiative at the Drug Enforcement Administrati.
I've read some really horrendous attacks cryptocurrency and bitcoin over the last few weeks, pieces that lack logic, knowledge, and understanding. What I like about this piece is that it covers this real problem with facts and without hyperbole. If you are looking for a little understanding this issue, it is a good article to read.
