Today in Apple hi: the new Apple tablet is called iSlate?

As rumors of a possible Apple tablet reach their boiling point, there is a rumor line that the new device will be called the iSlate.

The news is based the fact that Apple quietly acquired the domain name a few years earlier. Since Apple did the same for the iPhe in the late 1990s, years before the iPhe debuted, it makes perfect sense that the company would follow suit with the name of his tablet.

Of course, that didn’t exactly happen.

Digging in the iSlate

Eurobox Ltd. initially registered the web domain in October 2004. Eurobox then forwarded it to Data Docket Inc.

In 2007, the domain went to This company manages domain name registratis and trademark protecti for a wide range of companies, including Apple.

Keeping the name silent was typical of Apple. The company often does everything possible to avoid publicizing its products in advance, while guaranteeing the necessary brands. A review of domain registratis revealed that Apple is the owner.

The discovery was made by MacRumors (happy holidays to our friendly rivals!), after being warned by a 14-year-old kid named Mark Gurman. (He later became a real Apple scoop machine before joining Bloomberg as a reporter focused Apple.)

ce the news of the discovery of the iSlate domain name came line, others joined the investigati. TechCrunch discovered that the name iSlate had been registered as a trademark by an unknown Delaware company named Slate Computing LLC in November 2006 – even before the release of the iPhe. Apple created this dummy company. Gift? Regina Porter, the senior specialist in Apple brands, signed the applicati documents.

Eventually, Apple released a tablet in early 2010, but it wasn’t called the iSlate. Instead, Apple called it the iPad. At the time, many people suggested that it looked like a feminine hygiene product.

Would you have preferred the name iSlate? Were you an Apple fan at a time when the iPad was still a rumor? Let us know in the comments below.
