SMTM Technology sued Apple accusing the infringing iPhone maker of its patent with the Do not Disturb feature while driving iOS 11. SMTM is a patent holding company and has filed his complaint in San Francisco
SMTM Technologies strikes Apple with MDN while filing a patent infringement suit
Patently Apple found the filing that states,
Instead of To grant a license for the Bovis patent, Apple has bet that SMTM and Mr. Bovis would have neither the business acumen nor the capital to assert their rights the Bovis patent.
The patent in questi, 8,958,853, was filed by Nick Bovis in October 2014 and entitled "Inactive Mode of the Mobile Device and Inactive Mode Check". It describes a system where a mobile device goes into an "inactive mode" when a vehicle begins to move.

This looks great at DND while driving in iOS 11, which was released in September 201 7.
SMTM Technology wants to get Apple's royalties for the use of the patent. Apple will most likely try to invalidate the patent.
