Take a look at this great account from former NeXT employee Chris MacAskill. He recounts how a phe call that he made behind him – NeXT’s CEO, Steve Jobs, returns to Andy Grove, Intel’s CEO, likely played a role in the eventual purchase of NeXT by Apple. It’s a lg story with a lot of anecdotal details about working at NeXT and the things that were going there before Apple bought the company. I love this stuff, I love stories and behind the scenes stories of how things have ge. Mr. MacAskill does not take all the credit for Apple buying NeXT, but he played a role (hidden). If you like the story of Apple, it’s a must. Here is just a little taste:
The thing I liked most about working in developer relatis at NeXT was how Steve could call anye.
He was going to burst into my office and say, “I’m going to call Bill about TrueType,” and moti for me to follow him. A minute later, he had Bill Gates the speaker with me in fly-the-wall mode.
“BUT BILL!” You snatched Adobe and made John shout. “(John Warnock was the CEO of Adobe.)
“Steve, we did not want to go into the business of fts – it’s a nightmare, but Adobe would not open its fts before having competiti.”
