A jury decided that Samsung had to pay Apple $ 539 milli in damages, after four days of deliberati – and years of going legal battles.
The verdict is almost exactly in the middle of the billi dollar damage and Samsung's $ 28 milli lawyers have estimated that the South Korean tech giant should pay.
Of the total sum, $ 533,316,606 relate to Samsung's violati of three major iPhone design patents. The additial $ 5,325,050 milli covers two other utility patents that Samsung was also infringing.
In a statement issued after the verdict, Apple said that "It is a fact that Samsung has copied … We are grateful to the jury for their service and happy that they accept that Samsung should pay to copy our products. "
Samsung, meanwhile, was complaining that the verdict ctradicted an earlier ruling in which the extent of the damages had been disputed. "Today's ruling goes against a unanimous decisi of the Supreme Court in favor of Samsung the scope of patent damages design", said Samsung. "We will csider all optis to achieve a result that does not hinder creativity."
