The Russian telecommunicatis regulator wants Apple and Google to remove the Telegram messenger applicati service from their respective app stores.
This follows recent court decisi in which a Russian judge ruled that Telegram, the ninth most popular mobile messaging applicati in the world, should be blocked in the country. This is due to the company’s refusal to provide the Russian state security services with the encrypti keys to access the messages sent by the service.
The Kremlin previously used the telegram to communicate with journalists and to hold telephe cferences with President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman. The Kremlin announced that it would migrate to a new courier service instead.
