Review: Lifx Tile is a fun, but faulty HomeKit accent lighting accessory

e thing is for sure: the accessory maker draws out all the stops as it becomes a decorative HomeKit lighting accessory. In May, I saw a Lifx Beam accessory that provides smart lightning in a form like a ne tube.

Now Lifx is returning to Tile accessories, which seemingly direct competitors to Nanoleaf Aurora. Unfortunately, where Aurora is better, Lifx Tile seems to fail often …

Sylvania Home Kit Light Strip

Many of HomeKit wall lighting accessories including aurora and beam, pleasant To install, the tiles make things totally new levels. This box ctains 5 standale tiles in Lifx and cnecti cables for cnecting them all together. It is the cnecting cable that complicates the setup process.

Lifx Beam uses a cnector like MagSafe between individual beams, but Tile uses an unpleasant length of cnecti cable. Therefore, after inserting each cable into each tile, it is necessary to pass the cable slack between the thin slits the back so that the panel is at the same height as the wall.

At the same time, you need to attach the tile to the wall using the supplied 3M command strip glue. This is where things really got troublesome for me. It was most difficult to make sure that the slack of the cable passed through the back of each panel and that the panel was sitting tightly against the wall while the panels were lining horiztally.

Another advice I have is not to use the supplied 3M command strip. They turned out to be not strg enough in my test, dropped three panels to the ground and tore the cnecting cables a few days after hanging the cable for the first time.

It is difficult to explain the complexity of the process …
