MediaTek is a possible alternative modem manufacturer for Apple to csider for future iPhones. In the midst of its disputes with Qualcomm over patent fees, Apple has turned to Intel to reduce Qualcomm's market share iPhone modems. However, it has been reported that Apple is also planning to integrate MediaTek as a secd supplier.
Digitimes claims that Apple has not yet taken orders from MediaTek. For the range of iPhone 2018, Apple should currently supply about 70% of modems at Intel, Qualcomm receiving the minor part of orders.

MediaTek seems to be preparing for the new generati iPhone models. It will have 5G modems sale next year and it is apparently positiing itself to secure iPhone 5G modems. Of course, Apple is generally cautious in adopting new cellular standards, so it's not yet clear whether the 2019 iPhones will come with 5G support
