iOS 11.4 launches today with AirPlay 2 and the messages in iCloud, HomePod gets a multi-room sound and stereo coupling

Apple announced that iOS 11.4 will be released today with much-awaited support for AirPlay 2 and Messages in iCloud.

iOS 11.4 should be available live and via iTunes shortly after 10:00 am Pacific time, probably algside tvOS 11.4, macOS 10.13.5, and watchOS 4.3.1, after nearly two mths of beta testing. An additial software update for HomePod will also be available via the Home applicati.

The software will allow multi-room audio with HomePods, Apple TV and other AirPlay 2 speakers as so as they are available, including the Sos e, Playbase and Play: 5, and Bang models & Olufsen, Bluesound, Bose, Bowers and Wilkins, Den, Librate, Marantz, Marshall, Naim and Pieer.

The multi-room audio support will allow users to play music in any room, from any room, to broadcast music from e room to another. or play the same sg everywhere with an iOS device, HomePod, Apple TV.

AirPlay 2 will also allow stereo pairing of several HomePods. Using the spatial awareness to detect their locati in the room, each HomePod automatically adjusts the audio for its as optimal as possible, according to Apple:
