In its simplest form, HomeScan shows nothing more than the signal strength of each Bluetooth device cnected to your phe. Developer Aar Pearce has added a lot of subtleties that make it extremely cvenient to place and troubleshoot your HomeKit Bluetooth accessories.
When the applicati is launched, it displays the live signal strength for all Bluetooth signals relative to your device. It can be a little intimidating at first, as the list literally ctains all the devices, including n-HomeKit devices, and even several that simply appear as "no name".
