How to interpret the report the thermal problems of the MacBook Pro 2018

The Core i9 2018 MacBook Pro has been tested with a particular applicati and experienced thermal stresses. A noise ensued. How should we react?

There are complex issues related to the design and engineering of a MacBook / Pro / Air modern. In this case, a notable test of the MacBook Pro 15 inch (MBP) 2018 has attracted a lot of attenti. See:

My feeling is that David Lee did an horable job in his tests. He showed that under a heavy CPU load with Adobe Premiere, the MBP has reduced the CPU (in GHz) to avoid thermal overload. But here is the thing. His particular test has shown ly e aspect of MBP's capabilities. That's just about everything that a pers can do with a Mac and an applicati. A more complete test would be:

  1. Compare to other identical Macs to look for any type of hardware problem.
  2. Compare with other applicatis, especially those optimized for the current basic architecture.
  3. Take into account all the macOS changes in the pipeline and the speculative executi changes induced by spectrum protectis.
  4. Look at CPU performance and heat versus workload to see if the curve reveals where the performance curve you can work reliably. And if it's noticeably different from previous models.

There may be other variables to test.
