The public beta of iOS 12 can be downloaded and installed any of your compatible devices. The public beta is essentially the same as the developer's beta, but each release is released about a week after the developer versi. Until now, the beta develoer has been surprisingly stable, but it's definitely not ready for regular daily use (more that in a moment). But if you feel brave, or if you have a spare device that you want to use to see what everye is talking about, then installing the beta is easy.
