How to get the recent feature of iOS your Mac

e of the most practical features of the iOS 11 Files applicati is the Recent view. This view – available in the Files applicati itself and in any other applicati using the File Chooser to locate documents – displays all files that you have created or opened in the past few days.

Have you ever wanted to be able to do the same thing your Mac? Well, you can. Today, we'll see how to add a folder to your Dock that shows recent iCloud player files.

Recent iCloud Files in Your Mac's Dock

This trick uses a Smart Folder to do its job. Mac, a smart folder is a special folder that fills in items based the criteria you choose. Essentially it's a saved search, ly it looks and works like a normal folder (except you can not drag the files in there). You can create smart folders for almost any type of item your Mac, but today we are interested in two things: the locati and the date. The locati is your iCloud drive. The date is a beach – in this example, the last five days.

How to create a smart folder of recent iCloud elements

To create a smart folder, type Command-F when the Finder is the active applicati. This activates a search, which we will customize and save. If you type this while you are already viewing the iCloud Drive folder, the search will be focused there. So, this is the first step: Open your iCloud drive folder in the Finder, and press ⌘-F.

You will see something like this:

Here is the basic window of the Finder

See the drop-down lists labeled Kind ] and ] Any ? We will use them to restrict our search to objects used in recent days.

To do this, we must use a hidden trick. Hold down Opti and + in this search panel will change to an ellipse (…). Click and you activate the cditial search. This allows you to do and / or type searches or exclude items from your search instead of including them. Everything will become clear as we do. Just click and choose items from the drop-down lists until your page looks like this:

This search will return recent iCloud items. This search will return recent iCloud items.
[19659016] The upper secti tells the Finder to collect all the items opened last or created in the last five days. The secti below excludes search files, which is not necessary, but keeps the results clean.

ce you have the search as you like it, click Save . You may want to change the title of the search (and therefore the name of the Smart Folder). By default, the folder is added to the Finder's sidebar, and can be accessed by clicking it

How to add a Smart Folder to the Dock

If you want to add this Smart Folder to your Mac Dock, click with the right mouse butt in the Finder sidebar, and choose Show in the Enclosing Folder to reveal it in the Finder. Then simply drag this folder to the Dock. ce added to the Dock, you can click it to expand the ctent in a net ic panel, just like any other folder you add to the Dock.

Add Custom Smart Folders

You can repeat this tour with any type of saved search. You can view all PDF files with a specific tag, for example, to organize a project. Or all photos taken in Paris using a flash. Seriously. You can get really good with these searches.

Just dig in and take a look. You will see how useful this trick can be.
