With AR enabled, a future versi of the Maps applicati will merge its traditial interface with a live camera view. When navigating, superimposed arrows appear at each turn, making it more difficult to misinterpret directis. The company is even experimenting with the inserti of animated characters such as a fox, which would eliminate any doubt and make the applicati more entertaining.
AR technology can also make its way into the rest of the applicati, for example display an information card while looking at a showcase.
VPS is a related functi, combining live camera view with Google data to get a better sense of positi as possible with just the GPS. The technology could be particularly useful in dense urban areas where GPS is often blocked by skyscrapers.
Another less drastic tool is the "For You" tab which will show the points of interest a "Your Match" feature trying to customize the recommendatis. e intended use of this is to share lists with friends instead of having to erase names from memory.
Google VP Aparna Chennapragada did not say when these features could come to Maps, or if they will also be available iOS as Android.
