A foldable iPhone or iPad from Apple could include a soft casing, that can keep the screen of the mobile device and protected equipment while also coping with the rigours of the opening and the closing.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, a new model has just been launched by the company featuring a flexible screen.
The main producers of instruments, such as Samsung have created a foldable smartphe, with the design challenge, in large part, composed of work the way of the display can be made to flex without breaking for lg periods of use. For the filing, Apple suggests the use of the flexibility of the cover sheets and a flexible display layer in the same device, coupled to each other. The ctinuous layer may be treated so as to have a variable thickness, to enable it to fold at specific points. This may also include the additi of terrain to the inside or outside to allow the material to move, filled with a softer material in order to provide some support, while remaining malleable.

Again, in order to maintain the strength, the use of a transparent filler may be added to the relief cut-outs, but the material must have an optical index that is index-matched to the substrate.” In short, think of a glass substrate with relief sectis filled with a transparent plastic or silica.
The use of relief structures, and fill is to deal with the cstraints of compressi, where a material is pressed to the bottom, but has nowhere to move to because of the presence of other elements, namely itself. The relief takes material away to leave spaces, which allows the material to move more freely, without getting in its own way.

In theory, this could turn into a multi-fold design, where e device can be folded with two corners, a zig-zag fold similar to a brochure.

The deposit itself is not entirely new for Apple, as it is a refinement of an earlier patent of the same name. The previous patent was filed in 2018 and having the same list of inventors: Christopher D. Jes, Dale N. Memering, and Christopher C. Bartlow. It does not seem to be a lot of differences between the prior patent and the most recent versi, as they deal with the same general ccepts and mechanics.
Apple files numerous patent applicatis a weekly basis, but while the existence of the filing of an applicati does not guarantee that the ccept will appear in a future product or service, it does indicate the areas of interest for Apple’s research and development efforts.
Apple has lg been linked to the development of a display loop, including working with LG Display in October 2017 in order to create such a screen. There has also been a of patent applicatis filed by Apple that would allow for the creati of wrap-around displays, and even foldable phes that could clip to clothing.
As for the mechanics of a folding display, Apple has proposed mechanisms to reduce the stress the flexible display of the sectis, as well as a heating system to minimize the damage caused by cold bend.
