Facebook, Qualcomm will bring ultra-fast Gigabit Wi-Fi to urban areas

F acebook has teamed up with chip giant Qualcomm to help bring gigabit and fast Wi-Fi to dense cities over the next few years.

Regarding ambitis, Facebook's goals are rather simple. The techie wants the world to have access to the Internet (and, presumably, uses its social media platform). As part of this goal, the company has been working initiatives to provide free or low-cost Internet access in developing regis.

Terragraph, a millimeter-wave wireless technology that uses the same unlicensed spectrum by companies testing 5G cellular networks. Now, it seems that Qualcomm has boarded. In a press release, the San Diego-based silic giant said it would begin to incorporate Terragraph technology into its chipsets.

Companies have pointed out that this decisi should allow manufacturers to start building devices and solutis using millimeter wave technology of 60 GHz. The system is designed to provide effective outdoor cnectivity and avoid interference in dense envirments such as cities.
