Facebook Fined $ 1.6 Milli From Brazil For Cambridge Analytica Case

The Brazilian Ministry of Justice announced a $ 1.6 milli fine for Facebook Mday. It follows an investigati into the Cambridge Analytica case which was launched in April 2018.

Facebook should have been “much more careful”

In a statement, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice said:

It is obvious that the data of approximately 443,000 users of the platform were made available by the developers of the “thisisyourdigitallife” applicati for at least questiable reass …

The statement also said that companies cannot prove that fewer users have been affected. The ministry told businesses it needs to “pay much more attenti” to how user data is shared. He added that Facebook had not informed users of the meaning of their privacy settings. “The csent model adopted has had important implicatis for those to whom their data has been exposed,” he said.

Facebook can still appeal the decisi. Respding, a spokespers for the company in Brazil said Bloomberg News:

There is no evidence that data from Brazilian users has been transferred to Cambridge Analytica. We are currently evaluating our legal optis in this case.
