China0s BOE to become Apple0s secd largest OLED screen supplier in 2021

Apple plans to order OLED displays from the Chinese BOE in 2020. It is not clear whether these will be a first test or if they will actually be used in the iPhe 12 from 2020. However, Apple is expected to purchase up to 45 milli panels in time for the 2021 iPhe.

according to RPRNA, reports in the South Korean media indicate that the order will make BOE the secd largest supplier of OLED screens for iPhe. The publicati claims that Samsung will ctinue to make most of the panels, with LG Display falling in third place.

RPRNA has no clear history in reporting Apple-related rumors. Mday’s claim matches previous reports of BOE’s ambitis to become an iPhe OLED manufacturer.

BOE is not limited to Apple, however, having also become a supplier for Huawei. Apple has also sought to diversify the manufacturers it uses. Originally, it ly used Samsung for OLED displays, but partly to avoid relying a single supplier and partly in an effort to cut costs through competiti, Apple added LG Display in 2018.

This may also be the reas why Apple would have invested in the troubled company Japan Display, which was a major manufacturer of LCD screens, but was slow to switch to OLED.

Separately, the RPRNA The report also repeats reports that “the iPhe 12” will use the “Apple A14” processor, which is expected to enter trial producti in early 2020.
