Apple sold 600,000 HomePod speakers in the first quarter of 2018

Apple sold approximately 600,000 HomePod speakers in the first quarter of 2018, according to new estimates released this morning by Strategy Analytics. Apple's sales have allowed it to capture ly 6% of the global market for smart speakers, reaching far behind Amaz and Google.

Amaz delivered about 4 milli Echo smart speakers in the quarter, for a 43.6 percent share of the market, while Google shipped about 2.4 milli Google Home speakers 26.5%. Alibaba also outperformed Apple with 700,000 shipments, while Xiaomi found itself behind with 200,000 shipments.

Apple has a lg way to go to catch up with Google and Amaz, both of whom have seen huge growth in shipments over the past year. Amaz's shipments increased by two milli compared to the first quarter of 2017, while Google grew by 2.1 milli euros.

David Watkins, director at Strategy Analytics, commented that "Amaz and Google accounted for a dominant share of 70% of internatial smart-speaker shipments in the first quarter of 2018, although their combined share fell 84% Q4 2017 and 94% a year ago, which is partly due to the strg growth of the Chinese smart speaker market where Amaz and Google are currently absent. …
