Apple says the micro problem affecting some models of iPhone 7 with iOS 11.3 or later

Apple is aware of a problem in which the microphe will stop working the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models under iOS 11.3 or later, cfirms AppleInsider.

Affected phes may prevent owners from being heard in FaceTime or cvential phe calls after upgrading to iOS 11.3, or using speaker functis. This is an "extremely rare problem, with an even rarer repair need," said a source at AppleInsider .

According to an internal document sent to authorized service providers, seen by MacRumors repair technicians should ask customers to discnect all audio accessories and then run diagnostics if the problem persists . The "Device can not detect the dock" or "Unsupported accessory" messages appear for the affected iPhones, and repairs can then be made.

Most importantly, Apple could allow providers to apply for coverage. exceptis for customers who are otherwise out of warranty.

The associati with iOS suggests a software problem, but perhaps a problem of hardware breakage or compatibility cflict, since Apple offers repairs.
