Apple presents repair optis and parts availability for the 2018 MacBook Pro

Apple introduced repair optis and parts availability for the new 2018 MacBook Pro in an internal document distributed to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers Friday and obtained by MacRumors.

If a defective 2018 MacBook Pro is brought to an Apple Store, the Genius bar can send it to an off-site Apple repair center, which can repair minor compents from the end of July and major compents from the end of September, according to the document, which does not specify the major minor distincti.

Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will ly be able to perform limited -site repairs until the spare parts inventory becomes available, as is often the case with a new Apple product:

  • MacBook Pro models with touch bar have a "new" AC adapter, with replacements available in late July. The adapter is still 61W, according to the Apple website, and its external design seems to remain the same, so that all potential changes can be internal.
  • Keyed kits will be available in mid-August. Hopefully they'll be used less, because iFixit discovered that the 2018 MacBook Pro has a thin silice barrier under each key, which they believe prevents dust and other particles from sticking, repeating or operate incsistently.
  • Other spare parts will be available late September

MacRumors received this information from a reliable source, but repair optis and spare parts …
