Apple recently signed a lease for office space in a new building in Washingt, D.C., directly opposite the Carnegie Library, where the company is expected to open a flagship store later this year.
With reference to a source involved in the deal, Bisnow Apple reports a full floor in 700 K St. NW, currently under development as a high-end office building.
Part of the Anthem Row project of the Meridian Group, 700 K St., is e of the four buildings in a complex formerly known as Techworld. Meridian acquired the site in 2014 and began a $ 142 milli redevelopment in 2016 with plans to divide the building into two addresses, 700 K and 800 K. Microsoft's innovati and policy center is two blocks away.
The Anthem Row facility overlooks the Carnegie library, which will house a 63,000 square meter Apple Store later this year. Apple signed a ten-year tenancy agreement for the historic building in 2016 and was granted permissi last year to renovate the structure.
Apple recently announced plans for the Carnegie library, and said the locati will be tailored to the specificatis of retail chef Angela Ahrendts. In additi to the usual sales floor and facilities of Genius Grove, Apple plans to use the space for free ccerts, art exhibitis and educatial workshops.
Although Apple's intentis for 700K are unknown, the rental agreement reportedly covers 23,000 square feet, a relatively small area for the technology giant. Apple is typically looking for a larger offer, the hundreds of thousands of square feet, making the D.C. deal an outlier.
In 2012, the company hired a complex of twenty-four buildings in Cupertino before it built its AC3 building within a ste's throw. Apple expanded its presence in the area by renting a 260,000-square-meter property near Apple Park in 2015. That same year, the company's footprint in San Jose grew with lease agreements for a multi-use space of 300,000 square feet and an office building. of 202,000 square meters.
Also in 2015, Apple signed a deal for the first large office space in San Francisco, a facility of 76,000 square meters in the SoMa district of the city, which can accommodate an estimated 400 to 500 employees.
