The tech giant Cupertino reportedly asked to participate in a new pilot program that would allow governments, corporatis and other entities to perform tests beyd what is currently permitted by the regulatis of the Federal Aviati Administrati ( FAA), according to Reuters . The program was launched for the first time last year by the Trump administrati.
Wednesday, the US Department of Transportati announced there will be 10 local or state governments that have hosted the experiments. Technology and aerospace companies, which have partnered with these governments, will play a role in the testing. .
Winning communities include San Diego, California; Raleigh, North Carolina; Topeka, Kansas; Reno, Nevada; and Fairbanks, Alaska, Bloomberg reported. There is currently no word that partner companies have also w the program applicati.
As part of the program, winners will be allowed to perform more extensive testing that is currently banned by aviati regulators. They could include flying dres at night, people the ground, or outside the line of sight of a pilot.
With Apple, other companies that have applied to the program include Amaz, Alphabet, Intel, Qualcomm, and Airbus SE. Overall, about 200 companies have applied to join the program.
