A new report suggests that Apple would have managed to attract more subscribers to Apple Music than to have joined Spotify – at least in the United States.
Although this is far from being official – with reporting based an anymous source – this is csistent with the general feeling of a beginning of the year when it was thought that it was not official. Apple Music was likely to overtake Spotify in the near future.
The insider of the industry – described as a "major US-based distributor" – spoke with Digital Music News and also shared a report with the site that shows subscriber numbers for a number of streaming music services including Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal.
While the exact figures were not given to protect the identity of the source, Apple Music would have subscribers "over 20 milli". Spotify falls into the same range, but has now fallen into secd place when it comes to popularity.
While the gap between the two leaders is currently very low, it is expected to widen over the next few mths, Apple is experiencing explosive growth in the United States.
