I type this
This is why it has an 8-core Core i9 processor, up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 8 TB of storage. You’ll also get a massive 16-inch Retina display with thinner edges and a powerful, crazy 6-speaker audio system. Yes, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is overkill for my daily needs, but this machine is a real beast for experienced users and is e of the best laptops you can buy.
16-inch MacBook Pro Review – Design
If you are tired of the aesthetics of the aluminum Apple laptop, the 16-inch MacBook Pro w’t win you over. But it looks a bit more modern than other MacBooks, thanks to the thinner edges around the screen. As somee who (really) commutes for almost two hours a busy bus, I was quite shocked to be able to work this system without hurting the pers next to me. Indeed, the total footprint of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is ly 2% greater than that of the 15-inch model.
But there are several csideratis here. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is a little thicker and slightly more substantial than the 15-inch model with 4.3 pounds versus 4.02 pounds. I d’t think it’s very professial. The 16-inch MacBook Pro gives you four Thunderbolt 3 ports with USB-C cnectis. It’s good, but I wish Apple had found a way to pinch a micro-SD card or SD card slot for photographers, as well as a full traditial USB port cut. If you have large USB devices, you should keep the life of your dgle.
Keyboard and touchpad
Before we get into mechanics, let’s first talk about the feel of this magic keyboard, inspired by Apple’s beloved desktop keyboards. The keys are much softer than previous MacBooks Pro and there is more room to travel. I didn’t feel tired of typing this review, writing emails or respding to Slack messages.
To achieve this transformati, Apple chose a scissor mechanism, with a new design with a more hollow keyboard cover and a rubber dome under each key for more stability and comfort. It’s not that I type much faster the 16-inch MacBook Pro. I executed 74 words per minute, with 96% accuracy, which is just a little better than my average. The thing is that I like to use it, even if you have to make a little more effort to hit the keys than the flat butterfly keyboards of the past.
I want the FaceBook supported by MacBook Pro for cnecti, Apple Pay and approve purchases the App Store, but the Touch ID butt works quickly and efficiently. It’s nice not to enter a password over and over again, and it’s just as nice that this Touch ID butt also acts as a power butt.
16-inch MacBook Pro review – Display
Since the 16-inch MacBook Pro is explicitly designed to edit 4K videos, it can handle up to 11 4K streams at a time. I am disappointed that this panel does not have 4K UHD resoluti. You will get a resoluti of 3072 x 1920, compared to 2880 x 1800 for the 15-inch MacBook Pro. This represents a difference of around 226 PPI for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro and 220 PPI for its predecessor. Thinner edges make ctent more visible, whether you’re editing videos or watching a show.
When I watched a trailer for The Mandalorian, I saw the top vents the dirty Storm Trooper helmets spikes. Real pros will appreciate the ability to change the refresh rate the screen. This is important for publishers who want to adjust the refresh rate to the frame rate of their ctent. According to our laboratory tests, the screen of the 16-inch MacBook Pro can display 113.9% of the sRGB color gamut, which is good. However, the OLED and n-OLED versis of the XPS 15 239% and 210% respectively of the sRGB color gamut. The OLED versi of the Envy x360 reached 258%.
The display the new MacBook Pro 16 is e of the most accurate there is, as it has a Delta-E score of 0.27. A score of 0 is perfect. In terms of brightness, the 16-inch MacBook Pro recorded 429 nits, which is very bright, but less than 500 nits from Apple. The XPS 15’s OLED panel reached 626 nits much higher, while the n-OLED 4K model reached 418 nits, which is just below the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The envy x360 15 with OLED was also very bright with 483 nits, while the Blade Pro 17 ly reaches 267 nits.
The other laptop makers have to go back to the drawing board. The new MacBook Pro’s 6-speaker audio system delivers the best sound I’ve ever heard a laptop. This system provides a solid bass half an octave deeper, thanks to the force canceling woofers which also minimize vibratis, even when you maximize the volume. When I played 311 & ; s Beautiful Disaster with my friend in another room, she didn’t believe the sound was coming from a laptop.
The sound is much more vibrant and fuller than the first-generati Echo Show in our kitchen. A similar reacti came from reading The Mandalorian trailer from our office when I heard several people say “wow”. Podcasters and musicians will undoubtedly appreciate the range of 3 studio-quality microphes the 16-inch MacBook Pro. According to Apple, there is 40% less noise. I want to be able to watch Google video calls without having to wear a stupid headset, and I could do it with this system.
To try out the microphes, I did a live video interview Cheddar without putting headphes, which is usually a big no for any show. And yet, my voice came loud and clear during the segment.
Graphically, the 16-inch MacBook Pro should be able to easily handle any workload. AMD’s Rade Pro 5300M is the starting GPU, but you can upgrade to the more powerful Rade 5500M and use up to 8 GB of VRAM, which our test model has. In the benchmark test The Rise of the Tomb Raider, the 16-inch MacBook Pro operated at a pretty decent frame rate of 27.2 fps with a resoluti set at 1920 x 1200 at the very high graphics setting.
The Dell XPS 15 has 19.54 fps sculpted with the same preset. However, when we set the texture quality to a very high level the MacBook Pro (which is set by default the Dell), the frame rate of the MacBook Pro dropped to 19.6 frames per secd.
16-inch MacBook Pro review – Performance
The latest MacBook Pro is e of the most powerful laptops in its class. Choose between a 6-core Core i7 processor or an 8-core Core i9 processor. And you get 16 GB of RAM to boot the system; it can be upgraded to 64 GB of memory. Our review model had 32 GB of RAM, which should be enough for most applicatis.
Apple has reasably robust 512 GB SSD storage in the boot cfigurati and a 1 TB SSD in the $ 2,799 model. But you can customize your MacBook with up to 8 TB of SSD storage. Our model has 2 TB. the Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the 16-inch MacBook Pro got 7250, which is slightly lower than the 7584 of the Dell XPS 15 (with a 2.4 GHz Core i9 processor, 32 GB of RAM and the GeForce GTX 1650 GPU from Nvidia).
Video editors will appreciate the power of the 16-inch MacBook Pro. It ly took 8 minutes for Apple’s system to transcode 6.5 GB 4K video to 1080p, which took as lg as the Dell XPS 15. The Razer Blade Pro 17 needed 10:39 a lger time, although this system has a slower Core i7. CPU.
As usual, Apple offers some of the best and fastest SSDs in the world. the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, the 16-inch MacBook Pro ran at a write speed of 2,805 Mbps and a read speed of 2,540 Mbps. For comparis, the Dell XPS 15 got 2224 Mbps and 2116 Mbps for writing and reading.
16-inch MacBook Pro review – Battery life
The largest laptop you can legally fit into a laptop is 100 watt-hours. And that’s exactly what you get with the 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro. Apple claims that you should expect 11 hours of web browsing, which would be impressive for a 16-inch laptop. In our battery test, where we are cstantly surfing the web with 150 nits of screen brightness, the 16-inch MacBook Pro has been around for 10 hours and 55 minutes. It’s a lg battery life for a large screen laptop and lasts lger than competing Windows systems.
The n-OLED, UHD 4K versi of the Dell XPS 13 lasted 8 hours and 48 minutes, and the OLED versi ctinued at 8:07 a.m., so we’re talking about a difference of at least 2 hours. The OLED versi of the HP Specter x360 15 lasted 7 hours and 46 minutes, and the n-OLED versi Specter x360 lasted 8:09. Unfortunately, Apple makes no claims regarding fast charging. However, the power brick of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is quite muscular, as it is a 96W USB-C 96W AC adapter of the same size as the 87W adapter of the 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Price and cfigurati optis
The 16-inch MacBook Pro is now available in the Apple Store and other retailers, including Amaz and Best Buy. The release date was November 15. The 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro starts at $ 2,399 for the standard model with a Core i7 processor, AMD’s Rade 5300M GPU and 512 GB SSD storage. This model replaces the 15-inch MacBook Pro, which was at the same price. The $ 2,799 upgrade to a faster Core i9 processor, faster Rade Pro 5500M graphics and a 1 TB SSD.
Our review model is pretty stiff and offers 32 GB of RAM, a 2 TB SSD and the Rade 5500M GPU with 8 GB of RAM, which is priced at $ 3,899. It is expensive, especially csidering that a similarly cfigured Dell XPS 15 costs around $ 900 less.
16-inch MacBook Pro review – Cclusi
The 16-inch MacBook Pro has the keyboard that any Apple laptop should have. And I hope Apple will port it to the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, as superior ergomic comfort shouldn’t be premium functiality. But that’s how it is. There are many other reass to show off this laptop, as the 16-inch dynamic screen with narrower glasses, a fantastic audio system, and an excellent battery life.
It is also a very powerful laptop, thanks to the combinati of the Core i9 muscle, RAM gobs and e of the fastest SSDs a laptop. It’s up to you how much punch you need and how much more you’re willing to pay beyd the starting price of $ 2,399. The ly points of ctenti against the 16-inch MacBook Pro are the cost and lack of old ports that some pros would appreciate.
If you are the border between Windows and macOS, the Dell XPS 15 is a compelling alternative to the MacBook Pro because it offers comparable performance, a keyboard with even more freedom of movement and an OLED screen for hundreds of less. But if you’re a Mac and need a large canvas for work and play, the 16-inch MacBook Pro will do so for years to come.
