Apple launches battery replacement program for 13-inch MacBook Pro models without touchbar

Apple announced today a new global battery replacement program for some 13-inch MacBook Pro without touch bar. The affected machines were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017.

Apple states that a limited number of these units include a compent that can fail and cause the expansi of the built-in battery. This is not a security problem, according to the company, and Apple will replace all eligible batteries.

Customers who want to see if their machines are eligible for a new battery should use the serial number checker the MacBook Pro Battery Replacement page. You can find your serial number by clicking the Apple logo in the menu bar and selecting "About this Mac". The serial number is located at the bottom of the information window.

Customers who are eligible for a new battery will need to visit an Apple Authorized Service Provider, make an appointment at an Apple store, or send their device to an Apple Repair Center after performing a repair with Apple Support. .

Apple suggests to customers who get a battery replacement to back up their machines in advance. Apple also says that if the MacBook Pro in questi has damage that will hinder the replacement of the battery, it must be addressed before the battery replacement process.

Any customer who has already paid for a replacement battery can ctact Apple Support for a refund.

The battery replacement program covers the affected MacBook Pro models for five years after the unit's first retail sale.
