Apple Inks Deal with Volkswagen for automous employee shuttles

Apple signed an agreement with Volkswagen to use Volkswagen vans as stand-ale shuttles to transport employees around its various campuses and office buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area, reports the newspaper The New York Times .

Apple has been working developing the shuttle program, called "PAIL" or Palo Alto at Infinite Loop, since last summer. By the time the news of Apple's work the program surfaced for the first time, the company was told with the intenti of installing its own self-driving software in a commercial vehicle from a car manufacturer, which turned out to be Volkswagen.

Under the terms of the deal, Volkswagen's T6 Transporter vans will be turned into automous shuttles for employees.

The Apple Automous Shuttle Program would be late and "would csume almost all the attenti of the Apple car team," hinting at going problems its related project to the car, which has already been reduced.

Originally, Apple had more ambitious plans for automous vehicles and, in recent years, attempted to enter into agreements with companies like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which would have led to the development of of a fully electric automous vehicle.
