Apple hires Warner Music executive to lead Apple’s Music initiatives of strategic

Apple has hired a former Warner Music executive to lead a part of his Apple Music team. As first reported by ReutersJeff Brikowski is to join Apple as a company, global head of strategic initiatives of the music.

Brikowski made the announcement LinkedIn last night, saying that it is working with the Apple Music team. He will be based in New York City, but also spend time in Culver City and Cupertino:

Before joining Apple Music this mth, Brikowski served as vice-president of Warner Music Group. He focused global business development and new technology and innovati to Warner, according to his LinkedIn. Previously, he worked at The Echo Nest, which was acquired by Spotify, as well as the IAC and Tribeca to the screen.

Apple Music facing increasing competiti from Spotify, which ctinues to expand its focus original ctent and podcasting. Apple Music currently has more than 60 milli paying users, compared with Spotify, which is about 125 milli subscribers.

Apple has not provided an update the Apple Music subscribers since last June, so it’s possible that the service is now closer to 70 milli users, even more. Apple Music is currently headed by Peter Stern, a lieutenant Eddy Cue, who oversees all Services.
