
Officially announced Wednesday, the program csists of ten projects across the United States where dres will be used for commercial purposes, beyd existing tests that the US Federal Aviati Administrati allows currently. Reuters reports that Apple has been identified as a technology company participating in e of the selected projects, working with a company in North Carolina.
Apple's participati in the project aims to improve Apple Maps, possibly by taking high resoluti images of the dre, which could be used to acquire data road layout changes and increase the quality of Flyover functiality of the applicati. It is claimed that sensitive subjects, such as faces and license plate numbers, will be unclear in the images, csistent with the company's privacy stance.
Other projects have given the go-ahead to Flirtey start-up flying medical equipment to victims of heart attack in Nevada, and the use of a 1,500-pound dre to mitor mosquitoes in Florida. A total of 149 offers were submitted to the competiti, which would allow night deliveries, flights over people, and other types of air activities currently prohibited for dres.
