Apple released its semi-annual report government and private party inquiries for the end of 2017 Friday. e of the major revelatis in the report is that Apple will start reporting removal requests from the government App Store, as reported by The Verge .
The information was at the very end of the report, where Apple said:
As of the period from July 1 to December 31, 2018, Apple will report government requests to remove applicatis from the App Store in cases of alleged violati of legal and / or political provisis
We do not yet know the extent of these reports. For example, Apple could simply report the number of applicatis removal applicatis per country, or the company could give us data by applicati category, or even the names of individual applicatis. I doubt these, but the data will be good information for the guardians of privacy and freedom while authoritarianism is rising around the world
For example, China has banned VPNs the Internet. App Store. . Russia has banned Whatsapp because it uses end-to-end encrypti, and there is a real possibility that even democratic governments are doing the same thing in a futile attempt to stop the bad guys from communicating in secret .
Apple is starting to report this information. I hope that Google will follow this example
