Apple AirPods Pro Review

The AirPods remain the most popular in the world in terms of csumer audio, but that has not stopped Apple from releasing a new pair better than its predecessor in all respects. The AirPods Pro ($ 250) costs $ 90 more than their siblings, but that extra mey guarantees decent noise cancellati, sweat resistance, a safer design and better sound quality. If you’re looking for a pair of wireless headphes and d’t need the best sound quality, the AirPods Pro should be at the top of your list. It’s our Apple AirPods Pro Review.

They’re definitely at the top of our list, with a place our Best Noise Canceling Headphes page. If you already own the AirPods, you d’t necessarily need to upgrade – although you’re happy with it.

Apple AirPods Pro Review – Design

The AirPods Pro have the same DNA as the AirPods but have been improved a few points. Subtle curves and a bright white body give the AirPods Pro a retro-futuristic aesthetic, while black mesh lines provide microphes with a KT strip an athlete. The AirPods Pro have a larger case than their less expensive siblings and a more ergomic shape that improves comfort and keeps the headphes firmly in your ear.

I also prefer what the AirPods Pro looks like compared to the cheaper models. Yes, AirPods Pro looks crazy, but the smaller rods are less visible than those of AirPods – it doesn’t matter. As the original AirPods have proven, when enough people carry something, no matter how awkward it initially appears, it starts to look normal. Between the new design (which looks less like a toothbrush head) and the ubiquity of AirPods, there is no reas to feel embarrassed about wearing the AirPods Pro in public.

Apple essentially transformed the AirPods charging case from portrait to landscape mode. It is still much smaller and lighter than competing cases, but now looks less like a silk box. the frt of the case is a small LED battery indicator and the back a pair of butts. I like the way the case stays open and closes with a satisfying click.

Probably the most significant improvement of the AirPods over the AirPods Pro is that the new butts are water and sweat resistant IPX4 so you can use them in the gym.

D’t worry: the AirPods Pro are as comfortable as the original AirPods. You may have feared these silice ear tips, but they w’t burrow into your ears like they do with traditial earplugs. Instead, the flat nozzles are located just outside the ear canal and allow the silice tips to form a flexible seal. I even prefer the fit of the AirPods Pro to that of the original earplugs, because new earplugs are less likely to fail. Instead of just hanging from your ears, the AirPods Pro case nestles perfectly in the groove of my ear with a simple twist.

They w’t budge an inch when I hit my head like a rock star or when I use ellipses in the gym. Besides their unique shape, what makes AirPods so comfortable is their lightness. Although they are slightly heavier than the AirPods, at 5.4 grams against 4 grams, the AirPods Pro are very light, so, for better or for worse, you will quickly forget that you are wearing them.

Apple AirPods Pro Review – Ctrols

Tactile ctrols competing earplugs can be difficult, and physical ctrols require you to press a butt that can float the earplugs in your ear canal. Apple’s smart soluti to this problem is based the theft of AirPods Pro. Instead of touching a touch sensor, you ctrol the AirPods Pro by pressing a “force sensor” the rods.

The new system works wderfully. By squeezing the handles, the music was played; when my music was played, this pressure paused the music so that I could chat with a colleague. The same acti also answers calls. Double compressi takes you to the next sg, while a third compressi takes you to the previous sg. By squeezing and holding the handle, you can switch between noise cancellati and transparency.

I thought there would be more than e learning curve, but I did each of the checks the first attempt. That said, there are some annoying limitatis that I hope Apple will fix in an update or future versis. My biggest complaint is that you can’t ctrol the volume levels directly from the AirPods Pro. If you want to turn off or increase the volume of your music, you must do so from your smartphe or Siri.

Noise cancellati and transparency

The AirPods Pro have active noise cancellati, which uses microphes directed outwards and inwards to detect unwanted sounds and neutralize them with “noise canceling”. Noise cancellati works well, but does it justify the price difference between AirPods Pro and AirPods? It depends. If you plan to take them with you in flight, the AirPods Pro should mitigate the low roar of an aircraft engine. But they w’t save your ears from the crying baby in the seat next to you.

The AirPods Pro has de a great job of silencing spectators of New York City marath runners in frt of my house. But these peaks were not up to the applause of the viewers when I left my apartment and joined the festivities. I had mixed results in the office. The earplugs eliminated the low hum of the HVAC in our building, but I could hear colleagues speaking and the applause of a nearby mechanical keyboard with music at low volume.

The AirPods Pro also made my morning trip from Manhattan to Brooklyn calm, but I still had to play music at 75% volume to overcome the screams of an old F-train. With that in mind, d’t expect the level of noise cancellati you get with -ear headphes like the Bose Noise Canceling Headphes 700.

What I like most about the noise canceling functi is how well it works. Just put the AirPods in your ears and the noise is automatically reduced when a suitable cnecti is discovered. average, it took less than a secd between the time I put the headphes and the time the ANC was turned .

D’t you want to block the world around you? You’ve covered AirPods Pro, with Transparency mode. When activated, the headphes let in ambient noise so you can hear your surroundings as if you weren’t wearing earplugs. The functiality is ideal for runners or people who live in cities and want to be aware of the traffic around them.

My Sy WH-1000XM3 headphes have similar functiality, which I use regularly when ordering drinks the airplane or chatting with colleagues while listening to music.

The H1 chip of the AirPods Pro facilitates the pairing with your iPhone. To cnect the headphes, all I had to do was open the AirPods Pro case and hit Cnect when a ctext menu appeared my iPhone 8 Plus. To pair a Mac or n-Apple device (Android phe or Windows PC), press and hold the cfigurati butt the back of the AirPods Pro case and cnect using the device’s Bluetooth settings.

Audio sharing is a fun iOS 13 feature that lets you share audio with multiple pairs of AirPods or compatible Beats products. So you and a friend can listen to the same sg at the same time. You can see audio sharing as an invisible headphe splitter. In practice, the functiality worked exactly as I had hoped. After I paired the AirPods Pro and Beats Solo Pro with an iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 13, a new ic appeared the volume ctrol in Ctrol Center.

When I pressed the ic, the two headphes cnected, so the music played the iPhone 8 Plus would come from both sets. Audio sharing is compatible with all headphes or earphes with an H1 or W1 processor; this includes AirPods, AirPods Pro, Beats Solo Pro, Powerbeats Pro, Studio3 Wireless, BeatsX, Powerbeats3 Wireless and Solo3 Wireless.

Apple AirPods Pro Review – Audio Quality

The AirPods Pro sound great. Competitive wireless headphes at this price, such as the Sennheiser Momentum, offer better sound quality, but the balance and clarity of AirPods Pro should appeal to most listeners.

I started my test by listening to Daughter’s “Youth”, which seemed clear and distinct through the AirPods Pro. I was even impressed by the impact of the drums when they arrived after the first chorus. These low frequency notes were flatter but muddier the Momentum True Wireless. Despite the loose bass, the wider soundscape of the Sennheiser and the more intimate voices are ahead of the AirPods Pro this track.

The AirPods Pro handled the complicated instrument cfigurati well in Glass Animals’ Youth. The drums, guitars and synthesizers were well separated, and Dave Bayley’s delicate voice was clear. I even enjoyed the low end until I switched to Momentum True Wireless and heard the sweet sound of deep, ctrolled bass in my ear. AirPods cannot reach the same depth.

Julien Baker’s emotial voice was light and well defined when I listened to “Blacktop” with the AirPods Pro. I heard the sound of the acoustic guitar, but that sound never hurt the delicate voice of the singer. The heavier and deeper reverberati of the acoustic guitar the Momentum Wireless penetrated more into the vocals than I would have liked. At the same time, the deep seal you get Momentums has created a more intimate and forward presentati that works great with the acoustic ballad.

Due to their shallow inserti, the AirPods Pro have a relaxed sound signature compared to the denser and more dynamic sound of the Momentum. The moments were also strger than the AirPods Pro during my tests.

Apple AirPods Pro Review – Call quality

The AirPods Pro does the job but does not break down the barriers to call quality. My colleague said that I sounded loud but silent when I spoke to him via the AirPods Pro’s built-in microphes. Although my voice is not very clear, the AirPods sounded better than the Amaz Echo Buds and the Sy WF-1000XM3 when my colleague called me outside our New York office and switched between the three buds. The AirPods Pro also did a great job of blocking out ambient noise, although we had to wait for an ambulance and a bus to pass before we could ctinue our cversati.

Charging and battery life

Apple estimates that the battery life of the AirPods Pro is 4.5 hours for the headphes, which is just 30 minutes less than the normal life of the AirPods. The case charges the AirPods five to six times before charging them, giving the pair up to 24 hours of battery life. I listened to music and videos streaming from AirPods Pro for about 4 hours with the ANC enabled before the headphes informed me that the battery was low.

Apple Airpods Pro review

This is a good result, but there is room for improvement. Other wireless noise canceling headphes last a few hours lger a charge. This includes the WF-1000XM3 (6 hours, 24 hours with case) and the Master & Dynamic MW07 Plus (10 hours, 40 hours with case). When the power is low, you can put the AirPods Pro in their charging case and enjoy an hour of listening time of just 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the case uses Apple’s Lightning input, not the universal USB-C port.

The AirPods Pro uses Bluetooth 5, the latest standard, which offers fast transfer speeds, lger battery life and a theoretical range of up to 800 feet. In practice, the AirPods Pro had a fixed cnecti to my ePlus 6 smartphe while I was crossing the desk, but they cut a corner and placed a wall between the headphes and the phe.

Apple AirPods Pro Review – Cclusi

The AirPods Pro are better than the AirPods in almost every respect. The new sweat-resistant design is more beautiful and adapts better to your ear, the sound quality is slightly improved and the highlighting functi – active noise cancellati – effectively reduces ambient noise (d’t expect a miracle). Add everything we liked about the original AirPods – seamless pairing, reliable Bluetooth cnecti and ultimate cvenience – and we d’t hesitate to call the AirPods Pros the best wireless headphes available today.

But that can change quickly. Battery life and sound quality are areas where competing headphes already outperform AirPods Pro. If Sennheiser, Sy or Master & Dynamic can close the gap in other areas, they will be fighting a serious battle against Apple’s AirPods. Until then, the AirPods Pro are a must for iPhone users (who have $ 250 in hand) and a pair of earplugs highly recommended for everye.

9.5 Total Score
