Since 2018, Dell Mobile Connect has been offered to employees as a way to increase their productivity by improving the connection between its range of laptops and iOS and Android devices. After over a million downloads of the software, Dell will update it to work better with iPhones and iPads.
Revealed as part of its pre-CES announcements, Dell will be offering more support for iOS devices in the toolbox this spring. The software will allow owners of its XPS, Inspiron, Vostro, Alienware and G-Series ranges to work with applications stored on their iPhones.
According to the company, this includes the ability to access apps such as social media and carpool services stored on the iPhone via Windows software. The app will also provide content mirroring, effectively showing the mobile app screen on the Dell laptop screen.
In addition to accessing apps and mirroring screens, Dell Mobile Connect also supports the ability to drag and drop files and assorted content from the laptop to the iOS app.
Dell has advised application mirroring and cross-device file transfers will be the main features of the update, which were not previously offered to iOS users.
Dell Mobile Connect is presented as a way for users to avoid “sharing their attention” between the PC and the smartphone when they are working or playing a game. Notifications of calls, SMS and other alerts that appear on the smartphone also appear in the software, which also allows you to manage phone calls.
Dell Mobile Connect is available for free download from the Microsoft Store, along with its iOS counterpart, and will be pre-installed on all Dell consumer systems shipped this spring.
