Darkroom photo editor for iPhone and iPad goes subscription, adds watermarks, and the new icons

Darkroom is a popular photo editing app for iPhone and iPad with a suite of powerful features, such as RAW support, and the Portrait of the edition. In an update today, the darkroom has added a pair of new features, but also changed its business model.

Today with the update, a Dark room for iPhone and iPad is now a subscription-based application. The important thing to remember here, however, is that this only affects the new darkroom users. Someone who has paid for the darkroom in the past, “access to all the features of today.”

For new users, a darkroom will cost $3.99 per month or $19.99 per year. And there is always a time of option purchase at $49.99. Darkroom is hoped that the transition to a subscription business model is going to increase its revenue and thus expand the development of the application.

Also today with the update, Darkroom is the addition of two new features: support for watermarks as well as application icons, and Export Summary:

From today, anyone who paid for anything prior to this version will have access to all our premium features free of charge. To be very clear, even if you have bought one set of filters 4 years ago, you’ll now have access to all the filters and all the tools! We do this to honor the commitment we made to you when you have supported us before this switch.
