Apple plans to extend iPhone XR production to 50 percent of new iPhones

Although a large part of the media hype is aimed at the iPhone XS and XS Max, Apple is reportedly planning to increase the production of the iPhone XR by 50 per cent by December.

XR production rises to 20 million units in October, DigiTimes sources said on Wednesday. Preorders are only scheduled on October 19th, but Apple usually needs one or two months to make the starting stock.

By comparison, the shipment of the XS Max is expected to fluctuate around 4 to 5 million per month over a period of time, accounting for around 20 percent of total production.

Even before the announcement, several reports indicated that Apple was planning to favor XR shipments. The device is $ 749, while more than the cost of the iPhone 8 at the launch is still significantly cheaper than the $ 999 XS and the $ 1,099 XS Max.

To achieve that price, the XR uses a camera with one lens, shows 3D Touch and sports on a 6.1-inch LCD instead of OLED. However, it shares many features with the XS and XS Max, such as an A12 processor, an edge-to-edge screen and a TrueDepth camera for Face ID. It even comes in colors that are not available for XS buyers, such as yellow and (Product) red.

The DigiTimes sources suggested that the XR should remain "competitive" in China, despite being more expensive than other high-end phones in the country, due to the fact that it is a dual-sim device. Especially Chinese models are & # 39; real & # 39; dual-sim devices, while countries such as the US use an eSIM for secondary providers.
