Apple has restarted the beta version, one day after the end of the previous cycle by sending public releases, with new first beta versions of iOS 12.1, OS 5.1 and tvOS 12.1 being released to developers for testing.
Developers participating in the test program can obtain the new builds from the Apple Developer Center or as wireless updates for devices that use previous beta versions. Public beta releases are typically downloaded within a few days after the beta version of the developer, which can be downloaded from the Apple Beta Software Program website, but usually arrive later for the first builds.
The first beta version of iOS 12.1 is build number 16B5059d, while the first build of tvOS 12.1 is 16J5575c. The first developer beta for OS 5.1 is build 16R5559d.
It is unclear what each beta version contains as changes or new features. AppleInsider examines each release to determine what's new and will report on the updates in the near future.
AppleInsiderand Apple itself, strongly advise against installing beta releases on mission-critical hardware, due to the potential for data loss. Those interested in beta testing should use secondary devices and back up important data before installing or running updates.
The new beta arrives only 24 hours after Apple has released public versions of its milestone operating systems, consisting of iOS 12, TVOS 12 and OS 5.
