Apple's 2012 AirPort Express receives support for AirPlay 2

AirPlay 2 is an Apple streaming audio protocol that supports playback from multiple devices in multiple rooms without wait time problems. AirPlay 2 can be used with other Speaker products such as Apple's HomePod, Apple TV, Sonos etc.

To install Firmware Update 7.8 you need to use Apple's AirPort Utility app on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
