85% of all iPhones and iPads can run iOS 11 and upgrade to iOS 12

Apple has no problem providing an operating system upgrade to customers. Most iPhone and iPad users are running the latest iOS version. And all of these people can jump on iOS 12 for free at the end of this month.

It is in contrast to Apple's main rival. A small percentage of Android users have the latest version.

The adoption rate of iOS 11 is very high

Apple tracks the adoption rate of each operating system version by checking each device accessing the App Store. Just that number has been updated and as of yesterday 85% of users are running iOS 11. Considering the appearance of iOS 11, this is pretty good.

The company says that 10% of iPhone and iPad owners are using iOS 10 and the rest are using older versions.

Google is not doing it anywhere near. According to our Distribution Dashboard, only 14.6% of the current devices are running Android 8.5x Oreo. Even though the operating system made its debut one year ago on August 21, 2017.

The percentage of iOS and Android are very different as Google has serious problems with providing operating system upgrades to customers.

iOS 12 incoming

Apple probably updated information about what iOS version people are currently using. iOS 12 will be released, and many version 11 users upgrade soon.

This is probably a large proportion because all devices that can run iOS 11 can jump to the new version. All of them. This includes the iPhone 5s, iPad mini 2, iPad Air released in 2013.

You can download and install the upgrade for free. And for clarity, iOS 11 is not necessary. People who are still using iOS 10 or earlier version can jump to the latest version at any time.
